President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law the Nigeria Startups Bill, which is meant to shield young people working in
the creative industry from harassment and other wrongdoings.The Nigeria Startups Act 2022, according to Prof. Isa Ali
Pantami, Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, was signed into law by
President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday,
October 19.
The National Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Council, which will be established under the new Act, will be presided over by
the President.
Pantami, who said that the law was brought up by President
Buhari via the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy and the Office of
the Chief of Staff, also said the government has set aside N10 billion in
start-up money for entrepreneurs and innovators to use.
He added that the government's goal to create the necessary
enabling environment for young entrepreneurs and innovators, as well as to
address the sector's many issues, such as those related to intellectual
property, funding, regulation, and incentives, was the driving force behind the
new law.
