ASUU, FG begin fresh showdown, as minister tackles lecturers

                                                                                 Adamu Adamu
Since the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has stated that the government will not pay professors' full wages despite their continuous statewide protest, it appears like the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities are gearing up for another confrontation.

In response to the Federal Government's failure to pay them during the eight-month period, the lecturers were on strike, ASUU started rallies across the nation on Monday to emphasize their demand for full payment.

The protesting professors would not be paid for work that was not completed in accordance with the "No work, no pay" principle, Adamu emphasized when he spoke with State House media in Abuja on Wednesday.

ASUU, which began its strike in February, ended it in October after being ordered to do so by the Court of Appeal.

The government responded by paying the lecturers' salaries in half for the month of October while adamantly refusing to pay them for the eight months they were on strike.

ASUU started protesting as a result all throughout the nation. The lecturers "will not be paid for work not done," the education minister vowed on Wednesday.

The minister also addressed the claim made by Professor Emmanuel Osodoke, President of ASUU, that paying academics on a pro-rata basis was a ruse to turn them into casual employees.
