The lawsuit aiming to invalidate the Abia PDP guber primary is still pending in court

The lawsuit seeking to invalidate the People's Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary in Abia State was heard by the Federal High Court in

Umuahia on Friday.

Dr. Sampson Orji, one of the top candidates for governor, has petitioned the High Court for the annulment of the election, claiming that the delegates list used in the primary was constructed in Professor Uche Ikonne's favor.

He added that there were abnormalities in the way the three-man delegate congresses were conducted in each of the wards.

The former Commissioner requested that the court either declare him the winner or annul the May 25 primary, claiming that he would have won but for the manipulated delegate list. He made this request through his attorney, Rilwan Idris.

First and second defendants PDP and Prof. Ikonne, respectively, claimed that the plaintiff had forfeited his right to challenge the primary's conduct and withdrew from the race in their preliminary objections.

However, the plaintiff through his counsel denied quitting the race in his counter-affidavit and urged anyone having documentation of his letter of withdrawal, as required by the Electoral Act, to do so.

In the meantime, the several Counsels adopted all of the documents provided by all parties.

All arguments will be consolidated, the sitting judge, Hon. Justice Evelyn Anyadike, ruled, adding that time is of the importance.

The court then postponed rendering a decision on the case until a time that would be disclosed to the parties.
